Work with us

Your project, your way.

Step 1

Choose how hands-on you want us.

Some clients want expert drawings and run the rest themselves. Others want us to handle everything. Most sit somewhere in between.

you lead

DIY

You run your project, often as an owner builder. We do the parts you hand us, like the design, permit drawings and energy rating, and your portal keeps your own records in order.

  • Your agreement and documents in one place
  • Approvals, decisions and messages with us in the portal
  • Your own build records: neighbours, asset protection, permits and inspections

side by side

Done With You

We work alongside you. You stay in charge of the build, with us on hand for advice and decisions as it goes.

  • Everything in DIY
  • Site photos, 3D models and 360 site tours with floor plans

add-on

Assess & Inspect

Inspections, thermal imaging and reports. Add it to any option, or book it on its own.

  • Inspection photos, 360s and floor plans
  • Findings with clear next steps

Why work with us

What you get, whichever you choose.

  • One point of contact

One person who knows your project, instead of chasing five consultants.

  • Energy built in

Your star rating is designed in from day one, not bolted on at the end.

  • No surprises

You sign off each stage, and extra work is quoted and approved before it starts.

  • Drawings builders can price

A complete, coordinated set so quotes are accurate and the start is clear.

Pricing transparency

How our fees work, no guesswork.

Every project is different, so we don't publish a price list. We prepare a fee proposal for your project that shows exactly what you're paying for.

  • How hands-on we are

Your fee depends on the level of engagement you choose, from DIY support through to Done For You.

  • Who joins the team

Some projects bring in partners beyond the Drafthers team, from interior and landscape designers and heritage advisers to engineers, surveyors and builders. We regularly work with Helcro Electrical for electrical, solar and batteries, and Attic Design. Each partner adds to the quote, and we show you where.

  • A detailed fee proposal

You see what each stage includes and what it costs before you commit.

  • Compare us freely

You are welcome to get fee proposals or quotes from other providers in the market. We are happy to be compared.

Questions

Renovation questions.

About doing some of it yourself, with us as your renovation consultant. Questions about the portal are on the client portal page.

What does a renovation consultant do?

When you take on all or part of the work yourself, we help you plan and run it. At Drafthers it's part of project management: we guide you through each step, from ideas and permits to the build and handover.

Can I do part of my renovation myself?

Yes. That’s what our DIY and Done With You options are for. You choose which parts you take on, we guide you through the rest, and you can ask us to step in at any stage.

Do you help owner builders?

Yes. Many of our DIY clients are owner builders. We provide the services you choose, like design, permit documentation and energy ratings, and your client portal helps you keep your own records of neighbours, permits and inspections.

Which stages can you help with?

All of them, or just the ones you need: first ideas and concept design, detailed design and planning, building permit documentation, NatHERS energy assessment, and project management through to handover.

Can you help if someone else drew my plans?

Yes. We can review plans from another designer and manage the build for you. See how we manage a build on our project management page.

Do you work on extensions and heritage homes?

Yes. We work on renovations, extensions, heritage renovations, multi-generational homes and energy-smart new homes.

Where do you work?

Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.

How do I get started?

Book a free 15-minute call, or send us a message about your site and what you have in mind. We’ll talk through what you’d like to do yourself and where we can help.
